My backup light decided to become a permanent fixture on a wreck in Pensacola

Last Tuesday, I was doing a simple hull survey on a small wreck in about 90 feet of water. I clipped my backup light to my harness like always. Halfway through the job, I went to check it and the whole thing, clip and all, was just gone. I must have snagged it on something. I spent 10 minutes of bottom time looking for it, but no luck. It's now a $400 donation to the local fish. Anyone have a favorite, super-secure way to stow a backup light so this doesn't happen again?

Wait you clipped it to your harness and the whole clip vanished? That's wild.

Pensacola's reefs are basically a gear rental service. My old backup light is probably running tours down there by now. You need a bolt snap on a double-ended clip, not that flimsy plastic junk.

Remember hearing about a guy who lost his entire dive slate, pencil and all, because the plastic clip just dissolved after a few seasons in the salt water. Bolt snaps are the only thing that last, and even those need a good rinse. The ocean just eats plastic for breakfast down there.
