Pro tip: I thought those new self-leveling laser markers were just a gimmick until I had to lay out a 12,000 sq ft warehouse floor in Phoenix last month.

We were a full day ahead of schedule because the crew wasn't constantly checking strings and levels, so has anyone else made the switch and seen that kind of time save?

Heard a contractor on a podcast say his crew cut layout time in half on a big retail fit-out after switching to a rotating laser. The math checks out.

Those things are game changers for big spaces. Calling them laser markers is a bit off though, they're laser levels. The marker part makes it sound like it just draws a line. The self-leveling and spinning beam is what saves all the time. Once you use one on a big job, you never want to go back to string lines.

My foreman still calls it the "magic spinny light" and refuses to touch it. He'll stand there for ten minutes waiting for an apprentice to turn it on because he's convinced it'll steal his soul. We saved a week on a school gym project, but lost that time to his superstitious pacing.
