Vent: my longbox of 90s X-Men got water damage in the basement and I spent Saturday triaging wet comics
Last Saturday I went down to the basement to grab a flashlight and noticed the corner of my longbox was soft. Pipe joint above it had been dripping slow for who knows how long. I pulled out about 60 books and the bottom third were damp, mostly X-Men stuff from 92 to 96 that I bought off the rack at a shop in Columbus when I was a kid. I laid them out on the pool table with paper towels between the pages and ran a box fan on them for two days. Some came back fine, but my copy of X-Men 4 with the Omega Red cover is wavy now and the pages feel like old paper towels. I keep thinking about how these were a dollar each back then and now people want real money for them online, but that's not even the part that bugs me. It's that I had them bagged and boarded nice for 25 years and one dumb pipe undid all of it in maybe a month. Anyone here ever save a water damaged book, or is it basically done once the pages ripple like that?
