Vent: a guy at Fan Expo Dallas corrected my Silver Surfer #1 grade in line, and now I slab everything
I had a raw copy I swore was a 7.0 and this dude next to me in the Jim Lee line pointed out a color-breaking spine tick I'd missed for 5 years, and CGC came back with a 5.5. That was $180 in grading fees and shipping I ate just to learn I can't grade my own books. Any of you still buy raw or is it slabs only after a burn like that?
Same thing happened to me with a New Mutants 98 I sat on for years thinking it was a 9.0, turned out to be a 7.5 after pressing. What worked for me was buying a cheap loupe and a black light and checking every raw book myself before I pay, plus I only grab raw from shops with good return policies now. You don't have to go slabs only, just stop trusting your eyes alone on the big books.
