A guy at a con in Dallas showed me how to bag and board comics in 10 seconds flat
I was at Fan Expo Dallas last month struggling to get my keys inside a Silver Age bag without crinkling the edges... and this older collector walks over and just shows me the trick. He had me slide the bag down over the book at an angle, then flip it straight - no more fighting with the flap. Has anyone else picked up a weird little method from a stranger that totally changed how you handle your collection?

Wait so did he show you the trick where you hold the bag open with one hand on each side and sort of pop the book in at an angle? I've been doing it that way for years but I swear half the time I still catch the top corner. The real game changer for me was learning to breathe out while sliding it in, sounds dumb but it stops the static cling from grabbing the bag. What about those thick board books with the extra flap, any tips for those without tearing the bag seam?

Actually laughed out loud at the breathing out thing because it's so true. I noticed the same thing with those flimsy plastic sleeves they put over magazines at the grocery store, you basically have to exhale on everything these days to fight the static. For those thick board books with the flaps, here's what worked for me after ruining a few bags: just go slow and kind of push the book in from the bottom first, almost like you're sliding it into a tight sock. The key is not forcing the top flap down until the whole book is past the bag opening. It's funny how this whole bagging thing feels like a secret skill that nobody talks about until you mess up, and then suddenly everyone's got their own weird little technique.
