TIL most Colorado LLC owners around here file their annual report late and eat the $50 penalty for no reason
I run a small landscaping company up in Fort Collins and I was talking to three other owners at a meetup on Tuesday. All three of them thought the state report was due on the anniversary of when they started their business. It actually has to be in by the end of the month two months before your registration month, so one guy owed $150 after three years of late fees. I set a reminder in my phone for March 1st and it takes me six minutes to file online. Does anyone else here have a system for tracking this stuff, or am I the weird one for putting it on a paper calendar?
Did the state change how they send out notices? I got a postcard in the mail last year about a week before mine was due, and I almost tossed it thinking it was junk. That saved me because I had the date wrong in my head too, thought it followed my tax year or something. Now I just file it the same week I do my plate renewal since both are in the spring, keeps it simple. Three years of late fees stings but at least he knows now instead of finding out at year five.
