My CPA in Fort Collins told me to stop doing my own bookkeeping and it stung, but he was right
Had lunch with my accountant last week, been with him 4 years now. He said my QuickBooks was a mess and I was missing about $3,200 in write-offs last tax season. At first I got defensive, I run a 6 person landscaping crew out of Longmont, I know my numbers. Then he pulled up the receipts and showed me I had been coding fuel and mulch as personal expenses. Anyone else here hand their books off to someone and actually save money? Curious what you pay per month for a bookkeeper.
Wait you were coding mulch as a personal expense?? That is wild, mulch is like the most obvious business cost for a landscaping crew. How did that even happen, were you just running everything through your personal card and sorting it later? That $3,200 miss hurts but honestly the fuel one is what gets me, that adds up so fast with a 6 person crew running mowers and trucks all season.
