Tried brewing with water straight from the tap and my coffee tasted like a swimming pool
So I ran out of filtered water last Tuesday and figured tap water would be fine for one pot. I live in Phoenix and our water is pretty hard, but I did not think it would matter that much. Brewed my usual pour over, same beans, same grind, same timing, and the cup tasted flat and kinda chalky with this weird aftertaste I could not place. My wife took one sip and said it smelled like the community pool, which honestly was not far off. I looked it up and found out chlorine and minerals in tap water mess with how the coffee extracts, so you end up pulling out less of the good stuff. Next day I grabbed a $15 jug of spring water from Fry's and the same beans tasted like a totally different coffee, sweeter and way cleaner. Now I keep a couple gallons under the sink and I am wondering how many pots I ruined over the years without even knowing. Has anyone else switched their water and noticed a big change, or is it just me?
