Rant: my $20 Melitta pour over beat my $40 French press so bad I gave the press away
Same beans, same grind, and the press kept coming out muddy while the pour over tasted clean every single time. Anybody else ditch a gadget after one too many bad cups?

Man, my buddy went through the exact same thing last month. He was all in on his French press for years, but every cup had that thick sludge at the bottom and he kept telling himself it was "full bodied." Then his gf got him a cheap plastic dripper for like 8 bucks and he said the first cup honestly shocked him. Same beans, same grinder, but the taste was just way cleaner and he could actually pick out the flavors. The press is now sitting in his cabinet collecting dust and he won't shut up about it.
