PSA: I called the Aeropress a gimmick for 2 years, then a guy in Tulsa handed me one and I felt dumb
A buddy at a campout in Tulsa kept going on about his Aeropress and I gave him a hard time for months, told him real coffee needs a proper pour over cone. He finally handed me his at 6am while it was 38 degrees out and I made a cup in about 90 seconds with water from a thermos that was barely hot. The thing that got me was how it pulled a smooth cup with zero grit and I did not have to babysit a gooseneck kettle or time a bloom. I still love my V60 on weekends but the Aeropress has a real spot for camping and rushed mornings, and I was wrong to write it off as a toy. Anyone else come around to a brewer they used to trash, and what finally won you over?
Tbh I read a thing on a coffee sub a while back where a guy swore his french press made better coffee than his machine, and everyone in the comments roasted him until he posted side by side results. That campout story makes sense though, cause the Aeropress is basically built for bad conditions, low heat water and no timing. Ngl it's humbling when a cheap plastic thing beats the setup you spent way too much on.
