I finally stopped copying code from videos and started typing it out myself
My cousin Dave, who works as a dev in Austin, gave me one piece of advice last month that I thought was a waste of time: retype every line of code from tutorials by hand instead of copying and pasting. I ignored him for about two weeks because it felt slow and dumb. Then I hit a wall on a simple to-do app I was building, and I couldn't figure out why my button click did nothing. I gave his way a shot on a 40 line tutorial and caught three typos in my variable names that I never would have noticed by pasting. Now when I get stuck, I notice stuff way faster. Does hand typing actually help anyone else or am I just late to this?
