I always thought you needed a fancy degree to get a coding job
I was reading an article on a tech news site last week that said over 60% of developers don't have a computer science degree. I found that stat totally wild because I'd been putting off even trying to learn, thinking I was already behind. It made me realize the field is way more about what you can actually build than a piece of paper. Has anyone here actually landed a job after learning online?

That stat is interesting but I see it differently. I've worked at a few places now and honestly, the people without degrees had to work twice as hard just to get an interview. The paper still opens a lot of doors.

My cousin spent six months applying after his coding bootcamp. He finally got a job, but his resume went straight to the trash at the first twenty places. That degree is still a magic key for most hiring managers, even if it shouldn't be. It saves them from having to actually think about who might be good at the job. They just sort by education and call it a day. It's a lazy system that keeps a lot of good people out.
