Had to pick between two tool crib systems and picked the dumb one

Last month the shop said I had to decide between switching our tool crib over to that cloud based inventory app or just keeping the old spreadsheet we have been using since 2019. I went with the spreadsheet because I figured it was already working and I did not want to learn another login. Big mistake, the other guys on the night crew kept forgetting to write down what they pulled and by Thursday we had no 1/4 inch end mills left. Spent Friday morning driving across Austin to grab emergency stock from a supplier that charges double. I should have just used the app because it at least sends a warning when stuff runs low. Has anyone else had a simple paper system blow up on them like this or do most shops just eat the cost of learning new software?

You ever try just color coding the damn spreadsheet? We had the same mess and I highlighted anything under ten pieces in red so the guys couldnt miss it. Took a week to get them to look but it beat switching systems mid year.
