A guy at the Rockford shop tour made me rethink roughing passes
I always ran my roughing passes at 70% stepover because thats how I was trained years ago. Then last month at a shop tour in Rockford this old timer named Dale showed me he was running 40% stepover with way higher feed and his cycle times were almost half mine. I tried it on a 4140 job the next day and the tool life actually went up too. Anyone else switch their stepover after seeing someone elses setup or am I late to this?
Guess I have been living under a rock with my 70% stepover this whole time, sounds like Dale just saved your shop a bunch of money lol. Funny how some old guy in Rockford knows more than whatever training program we all sat through years ago. So what feed and speed did you end up running with that 40%, because I might be stealing that setup for my next 4140 job.
