Why does nobody talk about hitting the 1000 pound mark for trash?

I finally weighed my household's garbage for a full year after reading about landfill impact, and I was floored when the total hit 986 pounds. That number made me rethink every plastic package and food scrap I'd been tossing without a second thought. Has anyone else actually weighed their waste, and what did you find that surprised you?

Whoa, that’s a wild number to wrap your head around. I did a similar thing last year but only for about three months, and it totally changed how I shop. The biggest shock for me was how much weight came from food scraps and those bulky plastic containers that feel light but add up fast. What worked was setting up a simple bin system in the garage to separate stuff before it hit the main trash can. It forced me to see the pile growing, and within a few weeks I was already buying less packaged stuff and composting way more. It’s a pain at first, but once you see the number drop, it gets kind of addictive.
