Used to drive 22 miles round trip for groceries, now I walk 4 blocks and my carbon footprint dropped more than I expected
I used to hop in the car every Saturday for a big grocery run across town, burning about a gallon of gas each trip, which added up to roughly 52 gallons a year just for food. After my neighborhood got a small market two blocks away in March, I started walking there instead, and I realized most of what I actually needed was right there the whole time. Has anyone else switched to a closer store and been surprised how little they miss the big supermarket?
Man, I read somewhere that grocery store trips are one of the biggest chunks of our driving and most people never even think about it. Walking two blocks beats fighting traffic for a gallon of milk any day.
