Solar co-op visit in Portland showed me how neighbors actually get panels

Last month I went to a meetup for a neighborhood solar co-op in Portland. They group-buy panels and share one installer to cut costs. The organizer walked us through 6 homes that already did it, and their electric bills dropped about 40 bucks a month on average. What surprised me was how much time they spent on roof age and shade mapping, not just equipment specs. Has anyone else tried a co-op model, or did you just call a company on your own?
