Our neighborhood's solar co-op just hit 40 homes signed up

I overheard the organizer at the library say we're at 40 homes after 9 months, and that got me thinking about how we started with just 3 people at a potluck. We used a shared spreadsheet to compare installer quotes and bulk pricing, which knocked about 15% off each roof; has anyone else tried a co-op model in their town?

The 15% discount is nice, but 40 homes after 9 months feels slow for all that organizing work. My buddy tried this in his town and the bulk pricing barely beat what he could get haggling with a local installer on his own. Co-ops sound great on paper, but the time sink might not be worth it for everyone.
