My heat pump froze solid during that cold snap in February

I was up in Portland visiting my sister when I got the alert from my Nest. The outside unit was caked in ice and the system just shut down. Turns out the defrost cycle sensor had failed, cost me $220 for a emergency HVAC guy to come out on a Sunday. Has anyone else had issues with their heat pump in below freezing temps?

Oh man, that's rough. The defrost sensors are such a stupid failure point (especially since they're supposed to keep the thing from turning into an ice cube). I'd bet a lot of people in the PNW got hit the same way during that snap, mine was struggling too but thankfully didn't lock up completely.

Man that's a bummer about the defrost sensor failing on you... $220 for a Sunday callout is brutal. Those cold snaps really expose the weak points in these systems, especially when you're away from home. Hope your sister's place stayed warm enough until the guy got there.
