I used to think electric cars were just for rich people in sunny places

That changed last month when my cousin in Minneapolis got a used Nissan Leaf. He showed me his charging app, and his total cost to drive 200 miles was under $6, compared to over $30 in his old car. Seeing real numbers from a normal person in a cold city flipped a switch for me. Has anyone else had a similar moment that made electric vehicles seem more practical?

Honestly, the maintenance thing got me. My buddy's electric car just doesn't need oil changes or most of the other stuff that always costs me money. It's weirdly simple.

What finally got me was seeing my neighbor's beat up old electric car plugged in at our apartment building. It looked so out of place next to the fancy ones, but it just worked. I guess I always pictured them as these perfect, shiny gadgets that would hate our rainy weather. Now I'm just trying to figure out if I could ever afford one, even a used one, without winning the lottery first.
