That Tuesday I found a beaver dam blocking the flue on a routine clean out near Lake Placid

Had to pull 3 feet of soaked sticks and mud out of a customer's chimney while she watched from the kitchen window, and it took me until 4 PM to finish a job I usually wrap up by noon, has anyone else run into wildlife jams that bad?

Maybe that beaver was just trying to improve your customer's draft with a natural damper system.

Wait, aren't we giving that beaver a little too much credit here? I get what you're saying @adams.henry, but beavers aren't exactly known for their chimney repair skills. They just hear running water and feel the need to plug it up with sticks and mud. A customer's draft problem is a real headache with energy bills and all, so I'd rather call a proper chimney sweep than hope a rodent figured out airflow dynamics.

Buddy of mine found a family of raccoons living in his flue last winter.
