That retired sweep in Pittsburgh told me to soak my brushes in vinegar. He was right
Old guy named Ed who's been doing this since the 70s said vinegar breaks down the creosote sludge better than any degreaser I was buying for $18 a jug. I tried it on my worst set of steel brushes last month, left them in a bucket overnight, and the gunk just slid off the next morning. The bristles even felt like they had more spring to them after a rinse. Has anyone else tried this trick or am I just late to the party?
