DAE keep count of how many flues they clean in a year? Just hit 1,000 and it snuck up on me
I was doing the books on Sunday night and started adding up my ticket count from the last 12 months, mostly out of boredom, and the number came out to 1,004 flues. Kind of blew me off my chair since I run this thing solo with one part time guy, and I never felt like I was moving that fast. The weird part is the number that matters more to me is 38, which is how many of those jobs came from repeat customers who called me back a second time. That tells me people aren't just hiring me to get a brush down a pipe, they actually trust the guy crawling around their roof. Last Tuesday in Garland I did four houses on the same block and three of them said their neighbor passed along my name, which honestly means more than any ad I could buy. It also made me realize I should track how many of those thousand were oil flues versus wood, since the oil ones eat up way more of my afternoon. So does anyone here actually keep a running total, and if so what number do you watch besides the raw count?
That "38 repeat customers" line is the one that jumped out at me. My buddy runs a small HVAC shop and he started tracking callbacks after he read some book about it, and the number that surprised him was how many people came back within two years versus five. He thought his loyal crowd was the old timers but it turned out to be the folks he'd done small cheap jobs for, like a quick tune up, not the big installs. He also splits his tickets by season now because summer jobs pile up so fast he can't tell if he's actually growing or just busy. Have you looked at whether those 38 repeats cluster around certain months or types of work?
