Bought a thermal camera last year and it's been a game changer for finding hidden issues

I remember my old boss just using a mirror and a flashlight, and you'd miss so much. Last spring I dropped about $800 on a decent thermal camera, and man, it's paid for itself twice over already. Just last week in a big old house in the suburbs, the homeowner said their fireplace was fine. The camera showed a cold spot right in the flue liner, a clear sign of a crack you'd never see with your eyes. Without it, I would have cleaned it, said it was good, and that crack could have been a real problem later. It feels like we're finally using tools that match the job, not just what we've always done. Anyone else using one and have tips on the best way to explain the heat pictures to customers so they get it?

How do you explain it? I just call it a heat map, like @lily230's food thermometer but for the house.

Yeah, the "tools that match the job" thing is so true. I mean, it's like how we all used to just guess if food was done cooking, but now everyone has a cheap little meat thermometer.
