A customer's offhand remark made me rethink my brush rotation
Last Tuesday I was doing a routine sweep on a 1930s colonial in Arlington, and the homeowner watched me for a bit before saying, 'you know, you move that rod like it's a wand, not a tool.' At first I laughed it off, but then I realized I'd been using the same clockwise twist for 11 years without thinking about why. I started experimenting with a slow counter-spin on the next flue, and the soot came down way cleaner, almost no dust storm. Has anyone else found that changing your brush direction actually matters, or was it just a fluke with that particular liner?
