Used to lose half my Lite-Brite pegs under the couch, now I sort them in an ice cube tray first
My mom dug my old Lite-Brite out of her attic in Cincinnati back in March and I set it up for my niece, then remembered why I hated it as a kid, which was dumping 400 pegs on the carpet and hunting for the one blue one I needed. Now I pour each color into its own slot in a $1 ice cube tray before she starts, so she grabs what she wants and nothing hits the floor. Setup takes me maybe two minutes and we haven't lost a single peg in three visits. Turns out the toy itself was never the problem, my storage method was. What's your trick for keeping the tiny pieces together on old toys like this?
Kept mine in a muffin tin when my boys were little, same idea, one hole per color and it sat right on the table so nothing rolled. The other thing that saved me was a cheap cookie sheet with a lip, since pegs bounce and a tray edge stops them from hitting the carpet in the first place. We also made a rule that you dump one color at a time instead of the whole bag, which cut the chaos way down. My sister swore by a bead organizer with the little snap lids, but honestly the tin and the cookie sheet did the job for us. Now the bigger problem is the cat, who thinks loose pegs are toys.
