My niece called my old Tamagotchi a 'boring phone' and it got me thinking

I dug out my 1997 Tamagotchi from a box last week, and my 8-year-old niece watched me feed the pixel pet. She said, 'That's just a boring phone that only does one thing.' It made me realize that for kids now, a toy that only does one simple task might seem pointless. But I spent months keeping that thing alive, and the stress felt real. Is the fun in the toy's limits, or did we just have lower standards? I'm curious if anyone else has had a kid totally dismiss a toy you loved.

That "boring phone" line hits hard, my nephew said the same thing about my old Game Boy.

But honestly, that boring phone might be a good thing. Kids today are stuck on screens that do everything for them, so they never get bored enough to use their own imagination. A simple Game Boy forced you to focus on just the game in front of you, not a million apps and videos. That's a skill they might be missing out on. Maybe being a little boring is actually better for your brain in the long run.
