My mom gave me $20 at KB Toys in 1996 and I picked the wrong one
I had twenty bucks from my birthday burning a hole in my pocket and it came down to one of those big plastic dinosaur kits or a Super Soaker. I went with the dinosaur kit because the box art looked amazing, and it was a total bust. The pieces snapped wrong, the glue went everywhere, and the finished thing just sat on my dresser collecting dust while my brother soaked me with his friend's water gun all summer. Did anyone else blow their money on the model kit instead of the toy you could actually play with?
Tbh the real problem is that you were 10-ish and had 20 bucks burning a hole in your pocket at KB Toys, which is basically the worst place to make a calm decision. That dinosaur kit was probably 12 bucks and looked awesome on the shelf, but every one of those kits has like 60 tiny parts and glue that never holds. Meanwhile your brother's friend had a Super Soaker and you got wrecked all summer. Not sure this is some big life lesson though, kids pick the cool looking box over the fun toy like every single day. It's 20 dollars and one boring summer, you survived.
