Lincoln Logs are still the best building toy, and it's not close

Everyone talks about LEGO like it's the only thing that matters, but I dug out my old Lincoln Logs from 1993 this weekend and my kids ignored the LEGO bins completely. The real deal is that you have to plan the roof before you start, one wrong notch and the whole thing tilts sideways by the third row. Took me and my 7 year old about 45 minutes to get a cabin that didn't sag in the middle, and it actually felt more rewarding than snapping bricks together. Am I the only one who thinks Lincoln Logs teach better spatial thinking than LEGO, or are we just nostalgic for something that smells like a cedar chest? Has anyone else tried going back to them and found the frustration part is actually the fun?

My dad still has his set from the 60s and we tried to combine them with my 90s ones once. The notches were slightly different sizes so nothing lined up and we just sat there staring at this crooked mess for an hour. Kind of poetic actually, like two generations of bad planning meeting in the middle.
