Omg no way! I had one too and found mine a couple years back, the tapes still worked somehow! It was so fun showing my nieces what we used to play with.

Wait until you try explaining to kids that we had to REWIND those tapes before returning them or they'd get all garbled... and that you couldn't just skip to a song. We'd sit there with a pencil twirling the gear inside the cassette to fix the tape when it got eaten by the player. It's wild how we just accepted that hassle as normal. The whole idea of "buffering" was already built into our toys with those clunky tape mechanisms and the way they'd warp after a hundred plays.
