Found my old Bop It toy in a box and the batteries were totally stuck
I was cleaning out my parents' attic in Toledo and found my old Bop It Extreme from like 2005. I wanted to see if it still worked, but the battery cover screws were rusted shut. I spent over an hour trying different screwdrivers and even some vinegar before I got it open. The game still makes all the sounds, which was a fun surprise. Has anyone else had a toy survive a battery change after that long?

My Bop It Extreme from 2006 still yells at me to twist it. That thing is a cockroach, it would survive the apocalypse.

Honestly, spending over an hour on a rusty battery cover sounds like a huge waste of time. You said you used vinegar and different screwdrivers, but that's a lot of effort for a toy that probably would have just broken again. Most electronics from 2005 are not built to last, and even if it makes sounds now, the buttons are likely worn out. I would have just thrown it out and saved myself the trouble. Why hold onto old junk like that?

My old Furby from 1998 took me three hours to get working again. The gears were totally gummed up and it just ate batteries after all that. Some things are just too far gone to be worth the fight.
