My mandoline swore at me for 45 minutes before I found the lock

So yesterday I'm prepping for a catering gig in Austin and my new mandoline keeps sliding all over the cutting board. I spent 45 minutes trying to grip it, angle it, even wedging a wet towel under it. Finally I flip it over to wash it and there's a tiny thumb lock on the side I never noticed. I must have looked like an absolute rookie fighting a vegetable slicer on a livestream. Has anyone else had a tool just hide its own basic feature from you for way too long?
