The self-checkout scale that made me reweigh my entire produce bagging system
Last Tuesday at the Kroger on Elm Street, the self-checkout scale kept flagging my bag of oranges as 0.4 pounds heavier than the shelf label. I stood there for five minutes, reweighing and swapping bags, before a teenager behind me said, 'You know it's the sticker, right?' Apparently the little produce sticker on each orange adds up. I peeled all six stickers off, scanned again, and it passed. Now I check every single fruit before I bag it, but I still wonder how many people just pay the extra. Has anyone else had this happen with those scales, or was it just that one machine acting up?
