Showerthought: The old man in line at the Piggly Wiggly in Asheville who counted out $12.47 in coins
I was behind him about 8 months ago and he laid every coin on the belt one at a time, real slow, while the cashier just waited. I caught myself getting annoyed, then I heard him tell her he used to run the register at this same store back in 1974. He said the machines back then had big keys you could hit with your thumb and you knew every regular by name. Now I watch people scan their own stuff and nobody says a word to each other. Does anyone else miss when the checkout was actually a place you talked to somebody?
