Guy in line at Kroger on Tuesday paid for my $4.19 coffee and I still don't know how to feel about it
Standing in the 10 items or less lane and the fella ahead of me swiped his card for my coffee without even asking, just nodded and walked off. Half of me says that's a kind move and the other half says he took away my chance to do it myself. Do you say thanks and move on, or chase him down in the parking lot?
Feels less about the coffee and more about who gets to be the generous one that day. A $4.19 coffee is cheap enough that he probably didn't think twice, which is exactly why it lands weird. Big gestures you can file under someone showing off, but small ones just leave you standing there holding a cup you didn't earn. Only real move is to pay it forward on some random stranger and then spend the rest of the week wondering if they felt as strange about it as you do.
