The neighbor's five-minute rant changed how I see my whole commute

I used to think people who complained about traffic were just lazy or bad at planning. Then last Tuesday, a guy in the parking lot at the 7-Eleven on Route 9 went off about how his GPS kept rerouting him through a school zone, adding 20 minutes to a 15 minute drive. He wasn't raging at the system, he was mad that the city changed the light timing on Maple Ave without any warning. That made me look up the local DOT page, and sure enough, they'd shifted the whole grid for a construction project. Now I check the road alerts every morning before I leave, and honestly, it's cut my usual 40 minute drive down to about 28. Has anyone else had a random stranger's frustration actually improve their own routine?

Man, that story hits close to home. Something similar happened to me last spring when a guy at the gas station mentioned the bridge work on the north side was causing all these backup surprises. I had been blaming my own bad luck for weeks, getting frustrated at red lights and wondering why my usual shortcut was suddenly crawling. Turns out they changed two whole intersections during the night and nobody bothered to put up a sign explaining it. Now I check the county road map app every single morning too, and it feels like I got a cheat code for my day. It is wild how a five minute rant from a total stranger can save you an hour every week, but here we are.
