The 3am highway diner breakfast that flipped my opinion on gas station food

Stopped at a Shell station outside Columbus at 3am and grabbed their premade sausage biscuit, figured it'd be cardboard. It was actually warm, flaky, and better than half the sit-down spots I've tried, so now I don't automatically avoid the hot case on road trips. Has anyone else found a random truck stop item that beat their expectations?

The whole "better than half the sit-down spots" thing is exactly what I've been noticing lately. It feels like the places we're told to expect nothing from, like gas stations or dollar stores, are quietly doing the most, while actual restaurants are just coasting on their reputation. Once you start paying attention, it's wild how often the "low bar" option ends up being the one that actually cares about the product.
