I thought pressure washing a wood deck was a bad idea, then a client in Boise asked me why his deck looked gray
He hired me to redo his fence, but while I was there he pointed at his cedar deck and asked if I could clean it up. I said pressure washing wood is risky, it can gouge it up. He said his neighbor did his own with a cheap electric unit at 1200 psi and it came out fine. I was skeptical but he pushed me to try a small section with a wider tip and less pressure. It took off 2 shades of gray grime in one pass and the grain was still intact. I still use a pump sprayer with oxalic acid after to brighten it, but I was wrong about the pressure washer being the enemy. It was the wrong tip and too much psi that gave me that bad experience 4 years ago. Now I keep a 25 degree tip and stay under 1500 psi on every deck I touch. Anyone else have a tool they wrote off because they used it wrong one time?
