Unpopular take: I actually prefer working with berber carpet over nylon in residential jobs
I went to a supplier showroom in Portland last month and everyone was raving about the new soft nylon lines, but after 15 years of installing, I still think berber holds up better in high traffic homes. Anyone else find that nylon just shows footprints and vacuum marks way worse after a few months?

Man you're speaking my language right now. I did a rental property last year where the owner insisted on this expensive soft nylon and three months later you could see every single vacuum line and footprint like it was fresh snow. Berber just settles back down after a day or two, that tight loop construction hides the wear so much better. It's nice to hear someone else gets it because all the sales guys act like berber is outdated but for real world family homes it still wins.

And the thing about berber that nobody talks about is how it actually hides dirt between cleanings too. That tight loop kind of traps stuff in the valleys instead of letting it sit on top where everyone sees it. My buddy put that soft plush stuff in his living room and within a year it looked like a highway map with all the traffic patterns showing. Meanwhile I've got berber in my hallway that's been down for six years and still looks decent, just needs a good steam clean every once in a while.
