Had a homeowner call me out on my tack strip gaps - changed how I do it now

I used to leave like half inch gaps between tack strips at doorways and figured the carpet would just cover it fine... a customer in Columbus pulled me aside after a job and showed me how the carpet was dipping in those spots. He said I needed to keep the gap under a quarter inch max and it made the transition way smoother. Has anyone else had to adjust their tack strip spacing after getting called out on it?

I read a blog post that said anything over a quarter inch gap risks creating a soft spot right at the doorway.

Yeah that quarter inch rule is pretty strict lol. I actually laid down some extra flooring with a half inch gap at the door and it's been totally fine for a few years now. Just make sure the subfloor is solid underneath and you're good.
