Customer's dog ate half my carpet pad before I even unrolled it

Wednesday in Fresno. Big job, master bedroom redo. I pull up, bring in the pad, set it down for two minutes while I grab the tack strips from the truck. Come back, this tiny Chihuahua mix is chewing the corner like it's jerky. Owner just laughs, says 'Oh he does that.' I had to cut around 3 feet of shredded pad. Luckily I had extra from the hallway job. Has anyone else had pets wreck materials mid-install? What's the worst one?

Honestly at that point I would've just charged them for the extra pad and called it a day. That little dog probably thought it hit the jackpot with a giant chew toy delivered right to its living room. I mean who leaves a Chihuahua unsupervised with fresh carpet padding anyway, that's like leaving a kid alone with a cake and being surprised when there's frosting everywhere. The owner laughing about it would've made me lose it though, like yeah laugh it up while I'm here measuring how much of my material just became doggy diarrhea. I had a Labradoodle once pee on a whole stack of laminate planks before I could even cut them, and the guy just shrugged and said he'd open a window. Pets and construction materials just don't mix, but at least yours didn't swallow a tack strip or something that would've been a vet bill on top of your wasted pad.
