Screwed vs nailed subfloor on a 12x16 shed in Tacoma, did I pick wrong?
Helped my buddy frame a 12x16 shed in Tacoma back in April and we hit a real fork in the road on the subfloor. He wanted to nail the 3/4 tongue and groove down with ring shank nails, fast and cheap, said his dad did it that way for decades. I pushed for screws, 2 inch coated deck screws every 8 inches on the edges and 12 in the field, cost us about $60 more in fasteners and a whole extra afternoon. We went with screws and that floor is dead flat, zero squeaks, but I keep wondering if we just burned time for nothing. His uncle stopped by and said nails hold better in shear and screws snap under load, then left without explaining what that even means for a shed. So who is right here, nails for speed and shear or screws for pull down and no squeaks? Anybody got a reason I should switch back to nails on the next one?
