Bought a used miter saw off Craigslist for $80 - turns out the fence was bent and I spent 2 weeks wondering why my cuts were off.

After a dozen bad cuts on a kitchen cabinet job in Akron, I finally checked it with a square and realized I just paid $80 for a lesson in buying tools in person, so has anyone else dealt with a crooked fence and found a fix or just trashed it?

But isn't a bent fence usually an easy fix with shims?

Had a buddy once who spent three hours trying to shim a fence that turned out to be installed backwards. Sometimes you gotta step back and check the whole setup before grabbing tools.
