Am I the only one who thinks pocket screws are ruining finish carpentry for new guys?
I was at a job site in Portland last month and watched a guy in his early 20s attach a cabinet face frame with pocket screws and call it done. On one hand, yeah, they're fast and strong enough for paint grade work, and I get why every YouTube channel pushes them. On the other hand, I've seen three face frames split at the joint within a year because nobody bothered to learn a simple mortise and tenon or even a dowel joint. So which is it, are pocket screws a legit shortcut or are we training a whole generation to skip real joinery? Curious what you all think.
