Thought networking events were useless until a 20 minute coffee chat in Austin got me a job lead
I used to skip every industry mixer and happy hour. Figured it was all small talk and stale pizza. Then last month my old coworker dragged me to one of those speed networking things at a hotel near downtown Austin. I almost left after the first round. But this one guy, he ran a small logistics firm, we just talked about how weird the job market is right now. He mentioned they were hiring for a role that wasn't posted yet. I followed up the next day, did two interviews, and now I'm waiting on an offer. Still feels weird to admit, but that random chat did more than 40 online applications. Has anyone else had one random conversation actually turn into something real, or was that just a lucky fluke?
