DAE think hitting 6 months at a job should mean something? I hit it last Tuesday and now I'm stuck on whether to stay or bounce
I just made it to 6 months at my call center gig in Boise last Tuesday, and I honestly did not think I would make it past the 90 day mark. Part of me says stick it out because I finally get full health insurance and 2 weeks of PTO now, plus my manager said I'm on track for a 50 cent raise in April. But the other part of me sees people who have been here 3 years and they look tired and make like 30 cents more than me. Some people say 6 months is the magic number where you stop being the new guy and should start looking for the next thing, but others say jumping too soon makes your resume look flaky. I keep going back and forth and it's driving me nuts. Has anyone else hit a random milestone like this and used it as a sign to leave or stay?
Did you ever notice how the six month mark at a job kind of lines up with random stuff in life, like how a goldfish supposedly lives about that long or how you can finally cancel a gym membership without a fee? I hit six months at a warehouse once and used it as an excuse to finally buy a decent mattress, which made zero sense but felt right at the time. The health insurance thing is real though, that's not nothing, because going without it is scary as hell. Your point about the people who stick around for years and look beat is the part that would mess with me most. Maybe the milestone matters less than whether you can picture yourself at month twelve without dreading it.
