Shoutout to the bartender at PJ's in Cincinnati who saved my Firefly rewatch night
I was at PJ's on Short Vine two Fridays ago wearing my "I aim to misbehave" shirt when some guy started going off about how Firefly only got 14 episodes and it was all Fox's fault. The bartender, without missing a beat, poured him a shot and said "too soon, man, too soon" and then gave me a free one too. We ended up with like 6 strangers at the bar arguing about whether the movie made up for the cancellation for two hours. Now I wear that shirt there on purpose because it somehow summons fellow fans every single time. Anyone else got a spot in their town where canceled show grief just bubbles up like that?
The Blue Door in Portland has a chalkboard near the bathroom and someone started writing "Firefly: 14 eps, gone too soon" on it about a year ago. Now it's covered in quotes from the show and people add to it every week. Last time I was there a guy bought a round for five of us just because I recognized his Jayne hat. Something about a shared loss makes strangers act like old friends for an hour. Bars are weird like that.
