Ha, I feel this in my bones. I've got a cheap closed cell pad from who knows when that's been sat on, drooled on, and used as a dog bed, and it still holds air better than the fancy one I spent way too much on. The $180 one developed a slow leak on trip two and now it lives in the closet like a shameful reminder. My wife says I have a problem with buying gear I don't need, and honestly the old foam pad is winning that argument for her. There's something to be said for a chunk of foam that can't spring a leak in the middle of the night.
