My 3-season tent turned into a sauna after I switched to a reflective tarp
Last August I set up my usual tent at Lake Powell and the inside hit 95 degrees by 9am, so I draped a cheap reflective tarp over the rainfly as a test. Within 20 minutes the temp dropped to 74, and it stayed that way through the afternoon, even with the sun beating down. Anyone else rigged up a tarp like this, or is there a better DIY shade trick that doesn't add three pounds to your pack?

Used to think anything extra on the tent was just dead weight, but that test pretty much sold me on the idea. Might have to steal that trick for desert trips.
