I finally left my sleeping bag at home and used a wool blanket in 38 degree weather
Went camping up near Ely, Minnesota two weekends ago with a buddy. Temps dropped to 38 at night. I forgot my sleeping bag in the garage, still in the stuff sack on the shelf. All I had in the truck was a thick wool blanket my grandma gave me. I figured the trip was shot. Slept in long johns, a hoodie, and that blanket doubled over. Woke up at 5am and I was actually warm. My buddy was in a $200 mummy bag and he was shivering. I think the pad matters way more than the bag, a cheap closed cell pad under you does more than a fancy bag does over you. Has anyone else slept on wool instead of a bag on a cold night, and did it work for you or did I just get lucky with no wind?
